Juba Glitters as STA Awards Return
The Freedom Hall pulsed with lights on 13 December as the STA Awards 2025 gathered South Sudan’s brightest musicians, filmmakers and fashion designers. Organisers hailed the ceremony as “a barometer of national creativity,” noting record attendance and a growing international media presence.
Young Boy’s Award Haul
Rising rap sensation Young Boy dominated proceedings, collecting Best Overall Artist, Best Overall Male Artist and Hip Hop Artist of the Year. Each announcement triggered waves of applause, confirming his rapid ascent since his breakout single “Nuo” topped local charts in early 2024.
“These awards belong to every fan who believed in South Sudanese sound,” he told reporters backstage, clutching his trophies and promising a continental tour next year.
Spotlight on Emerging Icons
Diversity also marked the winners’ list. Soul vocalist Suzy Nadu earned Best Overall Female Artist, while comedian Rocka Ringo scooped both Best Social Media Influencer and Best Comedian, reflecting digital platforms’ growing sway over popular culture.
Afrobeats performer Bravo Kissy, producer T. Senior and rap collective SSD Migos received nods that critics say will spur cross-genre collaborations during 2026.
Industry Growth and Cultural Pride
Analysts attribute the creative boom to improved studio infrastructure and wider 4G coverage, enabling artists to stream content regionally. The Ministry of Culture stated that entertainment now contributes “over two percent” to GDP, a figure expected to rise with upcoming festivals.
As fireworks closed the show, presenter Mary Boya summed up the mood: “Tonight we celebrate talent, but above all we celebrate South Sudan’s confidence in its own voice.” The sentiment resonated long after the last beat faded.
