    Statewide Drive for Girl Education

Western Equatoria State unveiled a campaign championing girl child education during a ceremony at the Ministry of General Education in Yambio.

Acting Governor Justin Joseph Marona told the audience that classrooms holding girls are laboratories for peace, reconciliation and future growth in South Sudan.

    Government Policies and Parental Roles

Marona acknowledged enduring economic and cultural hurdles that push many daughters out of school, vowing tougher policies and awareness drives to keep them learning.

He urged pupils to trade discos for textbooks, calling discipline the engine that will steer Western Equatoria into a knowledge-based era.

    Civil Society Partnerships Boost Reforms

Community Empowerment for Progress Organization Executive Director Edmond Yakani applauded the initiative, recalling his 2015 advocacy for a Girl Child Education Act.

Yakani said CEPO will work with the state parliament to secure legislation that shields learners from dropout risks and cements equal opportunity.

    Classroom Voices and Future Outlook

Students and teachers in the packed courtyard welcomed the campaign, saying steady support can transform families and communities long sidelined by poverty.

Smiling under her sky-blue uniform, Secondary Two student Grace Marta whispered, “Education is my shield. I now believe finishing school is possible.”
