    Abrupt Shake-Up During Exams

Aweil North County Commissioner Deng Kuel Kuel on Tuesday suspended eleven education officials, including County Education Director Abraham Garang Jeluel. The announcement landed as hundreds of pupils began crucial end-of-year exams, heightening anxiety across Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.

    Key Figures Left in Limbo

Those removed comprise the director, his deputy, six area supervisors, and three senior teachers. Jeluel said he received no explanation and was told simply to hand over duties “to anyone of my staff” until further notice (Jeluel).

    Commissioner Stays Tight-Lipped

Commissioner Kuel confirmed the action to journalists, labelling it an “administrative issue” and warning the media against deeper inquiry. No formal charges or performance concerns were cited, leaving parents and teachers to speculate on motives.

    Legal Authority Questioned

State lawmaker William Wel Deng branded the move “unlawful,” arguing county authorities cannot suspend state employees, especially during examinations. “Who will supervise the exams?” he asked, cautioning that pupils’ results could be jeopardised (Wel).

    Ministry Claims Resolution

Director General Velantino Anei Deng said the education ministry had already resolved the matter but offered no specifics on reinstatements or disciplinary findings. His statement has yet to be confirmed by written orders or public notices.

    Fee Dispute Clouds Context

The suspensions follow a separate dispute where more than 350 pupils reportedly missed exams after failing to pay newly introduced fees. Authorities have not clarified whether the fee standoff and the officials’ removal are connected, keeping tensions high in classrooms.
