Government Backs Media Capacity in Warrap State
South Sudan’s national information minister, Michael Makuei Lueth, has promised fresh support for reporters across Warrap State after meeting Governor Bol Wek Agoth in Juba on Wednesday.
According to a communiqué posted by the ministry, the plan revolves around structured training and wider access to tools that can lift local journalism to recognised professional standards.
Training Focused on Transparent 2026 Elections
Makuei said the workshops will prime journalists for the December 2026 polls, stressing that accurate, timely and balanced reporting is indispensable if citizens are to judge the fairness of the first nationwide vote in years.
He asked Warrap’s state ministry to pinpoint critical knowledge gaps so that curricula can address field safety, fact-checking and digital ethics alongside classic news gathering techniques.
Telecom Expansion Tied to Security and Growth
Beyond classrooms, the dialogue turned to phone masts and fibre routes.
Governor Wek urged the central ministry to connect isolated payams, arguing that reliable networks are both a national security shield and a catalyst for state and federal revenue.
He cited border-straddling criminal rings and said instant communication between Warrap, Unity and Lakes could tighten coordination during emergencies.
Rural Development Vision Echoes SPLA/M Ideals
Both leaders referenced the SPLA/M roots of taking services to villages, linking roads, telecoms and other basics to inclusive nation-building.
They floated incentives to make state towns appealing enough to reverse urban drift and channel youthful labour toward fertile farmlands that still wait for large-scale cultivation.
Decentralising resources, they agreed, remains the practical route to balanced growth and social cohesion.
