South Sudan’s 115-52 Rout Rocks AfroBasket

    Record-Breaking Night in Moçâmedes

South Sudan restored their title hopes in electrifying style on Thursday, overwhelming Libya 115-52 in Moçâmedes, Angola. The 63-point gap is the widest seen at the 2025 AfroBasket, reaffirming the Bright Stars’ growing stature after Tuesday’s surprise defeat to Guinea (Eye Radio).

    Relentless Press Sets Early Tone

Coach Royal Ivey ordered a full-court press from the opening tip, and Libya unraveled. Within three minutes South Sudan led 9-2; by the first timeout it was 18-2. The Bright Stars never relinquished control, finishing the quarter ahead 31-12 and silencing Libyan supporters (FIBA).

    Captain Omot Sparks Balanced Offense

Skipper Nuni Omot delivered 16 points and 10 boards, but the headline was balance: every South Sudanese player scored, six reached double figures. Point guard Khaman Maluach threaded fast-break assists, while the bench poured in 32 points, dwarfing Libya’s nine and keeping legs fresh for Saturday.

    Turnovers, Fouls Sink Mediterranean Knights

Libya surrendered 21 turnovers, gifting 32 points, and shot just 11-for-49 from the field. Missed free throws—12 of 24—added to the frustration. Coach Sam Vincent admitted his squad “struggled with South Sudan’s speed and physicality,” promising adjustments before the must-win clash against Angola (Eye Radio).

Group C Picture and Road Ahead

At 1-1 South Sudan now control their destiny; a victory over Angola could hand them top seed status. Libya, winless in two, face elimination without a statement performance in their finale. With form resurging, the Bright Stars have signaled they remain legitimate contenders for a first continental crown.
