Two-Week Polio Drive Begins in Abyei
Health officials in the Abyei Administrative Area rolled out a two-week polio vaccination push on Friday, marking the latest routine immunisation round designed to shield every child under five from the crippling virus.
The exercise stretches from Abyei town into the four administrative counties, reflecting what officials view as a zone-wide commitment to stop any potential outbreak before it starts.
Minister Yohana Akol Ngor Details Strategy
Abyei Minister of Information and Communication Yohana Akol Ngor told Eye Radio the programme ‘targets children from one day old to five years old’ and enjoys technical backing from the National Ministry of Health.
Akol added that campaign teams began work two days before the announcement and will move county by county over fourteen days to guarantee no community is overlooked.
Parents Urged to Support Vaccination Teams
He urged parents and local leaders to open their doors to vaccinators, stressing that cooperation is vital for full coverage and lasting protection.
Parallel Campaign Targets Youth Drug Abuse
A week earlier, the administration launched a separate awareness drive against drug and substance abuse among youth, a problem officials say can undermine the well-being gains sought through immunisation.
Both interventions underscore Abyei’s broader strategy of pairing preventive medicine with social outreach to strengthen grassroots health resilience.
