    Diaspora Voices Target UN Spotlight

On 23 September 2025, South Sudanese activists abroad plan a peace rally at Dag Hammarskjöld Plaza, opposite the United Nations in New York.

The South Sudan International Advocacy for Human Rights (SSIAHR) hopes the gathering will channel diaspora energy into diplomatic pressure for an enduring ceasefire.

    Key Grievances Highlighted

Speakers intend to condemn reported air strikes on civilians in Greater Upper Nile and Greater Equatoria, allegedly carried out by the UPDF and SSDF.

Detention of opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar and seven colleagues will be cited as emblematic of stalled political dialogue.

    Organizers Seek Global Solidarity

“This rally is about amplifying the voices of our people back home who continue to suffer from displacement and insecurity,” says SSIAHR president Peter Kuel.

Organizers urge diplomats, humanitarian agencies, and ordinary New Yorkers to stand with South Sudan’s quest for stability.

    Media Engagement Expected

SSIAHR has invited all media to cover the five-hour demonstration, promising access to participants for interviews.

Contacts include Nyabel Lual and Peter Kuel, who will coordinate on-site logistics and press queries.

    Momentum Toward Inclusive Peace

Activists believe sustained diaspora advocacy keeps South Sudan’s protracted war on the international agenda despite crisis fatigue.

Whether Tuesday’s crowd sways policy or not, organizers argue that visible unity abroad can nurture hope at home.
