Central Equatoria Cabinet defers Juba cleaning plan
The Central Equatoria State Cabinet on Thursday deferred a proposal to establish the Juba City Cleaning and Beautification Corporation, pending further technical and financial review.
The decision was taken during an ordinary cabinet meeting chaired by Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony, after members reviewed a memo presented by Lily Kapuki Jurkin, the State Minister of Agriculture, Environment, and Forestry.
Officials say proposal targets long-standing waste challenges
Addressing journalists after the meeting, Jacob Aligo, the State Minister of Information and Communication, said the proposal is intended to tackle persistent waste management problems in Juba City.
“The memo seeks to introduce a systematic approach to waste collection, recycling, and safe disposal, while ensuring environmental compliance to protect public health and improve the cleanliness of Juba City,” Jacob Aligo said.
Technical assessment and financial planning requested
According to Jacob Aligo, cabinet members acknowledged the potential value of the initiative, while stressing that additional technical assessment was still needed.
He added that ministers also sought clearer financial planning before any decision could move forward, reflecting a cautious approach to institutional design and operational funding.
State Economic Cluster tasked with further analysis
The Council of Ministers unanimously agreed to refer the proposal to the State Economic Cluster for further analysis.
Jacob Aligo said the aim is to incorporate necessary recommendations before the memo is returned to the cabinet for renewed consideration.
