EAC Central Banks Audit Conference Opens in Juba
The 10th Internal Audit Conference for East African Community central banks officially opened in Juba yesterday. Delegates arrived from Somalia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Kenya, reflecting a broad regional turnout for the annual professional gathering.
Digital Transformation: Data Governance and Audit Priorities
Organisers said the conference is focused on data governance, digital maturity, and efforts to strengthen governance, risk, and compliance frameworks. The agenda mirrors the wider push by central banks across the region to manage opportunities and controls as financial systems adopt more digital tools.
Bank of South Sudan Governor Highlights Evolving Audit Role
At the opening ceremony, Bank of South Sudan Governor Hon. Johnny Ohisa Damian thanked EAC partner states for selecting South Sudan to host. He argued that internal audit is gaining weight in the digital age, with functions expected to deliver insights that support innovation and reinforce digital systems.
“This conference provides a platform for sharing experiences aimed at enhancing digital governance and financial integration, boosting public trust, and supporting sustainable economic growth,” Governor Damian said (Eye Radio).
Policy Leadership Encourages Regional Economic Impact
First Deputy Governor for Policy and Banking, Hon. Yanga Mikaya, welcomed participants and urged them to engage fully in discussions. He framed the exchanges as a practical opportunity to identify approaches that could contribute to positive outcomes for the regional economy (Eye Radio).
Cooperation Among EAC Member States in Internal Audit
Abraham Dut Atem, Director of the Bank of South Sudan Internal Audit Department, stressed the value of cooperation among EAC member states. He called on internal auditors to take a proactive role in strengthening institutional frameworks as central banks adapt their governance models (Eye Radio).

The event is held under the theme “Reimagining Internal Audit in the Digital Era to Drive Transformation.” Organisers said it is also attended by Hon. Acuil Malith Bagol, a Member of the Bank of South Sudan Board of Directors, underscoring senior-level interest in the discussions (Eye Radio).
