Jealous Rage: Co-Wife Killing Stuns South Sudan

    Fatal Stabbing Shocks Rum-rol Community

Police in Rum-rol, Madhol payam, confirmed the death of Abany Yor Kiir, allegedly stabbed by her co-wife Abuk Deng early Thursday. The two women are married to wounded veteran Majoth Kiir.

    Chronology of the Night Attack

Witnesses say Abany was breastfeeding a one-year-old when the dispute flared. Investigators report that Abuk lured her co-wife outside before striking a single fatal blow to the abdomen.

    Swift Police and Judicial Action

Youth chairperson Garang Lual labelled the act “despicable,” telling reporters the community was left numb. “Our priority is calm while the courts work,” he added.

Madhol Payam administrator Akech Tong dispatched officers within minutes, preventing retaliation. He noted the suspect is held in Wanyjok and will face a magistrate once preliminary files close.

    Socio-Economic Pressures Fueling Domestic Violence

Local leaders link the spike in intimate-partner killings to economic strain, cattle price shocks and post-war trauma common across Northern Bahr el Ghazal, according to social workers at Wanyjok Civil Hospital.

Calls for Mediation and Support Services

Counsellor Mary Nyawang urges residents to seek mediation first. “Customary chiefs and women’s unions are ready to help before anger turns lethal,” she said, echoing state campaigns against gender-based violence.

Analysts argue that early childhood protection and livelihood support could ease tensions, noting regional governments, including Brazzaville, have prioritised family welfare in recent budgets.
