Eye Radio Journalist Emmanuel Akile Remembered

South Sudan’s Minister of Health, Sarah Cleto Rial, has described the late senior Eye Radio journalist Emmanuel Joseph Akile as a distinguished and widely appreciated media professional, according to a condolence message addressed to Eye Media’s Chief Executive Officer (Eye Radio).

Akile was a long-serving presenter on Eye Radio’s flagship programme, The Dawn Show. He died on December 30, 2025, at a hospital in Gudele after a short illness, the statement said (Eye Radio).

Condolence Message From Minister Sarah Cleto Rial

In her message, Minister Rial said Akile’s passing represents a major loss for his relatives, colleagues, and the country, framing his career as one that carried public significance beyond the newsroom (Eye Radio).

“It is with a heavy heart that I write to express my profound sadness upon hearing the news of the untimely passing of Emmanuel Joseph Akile,” Minister Rial wrote, calling him a “distinguished and beloved veteran journalist at Eye Radio” (Eye Radio).

The Dawn Show and Public Debate in South Sudan

Minister Rial credited Akile with sustained commitment to journalism, saying his work on The Dawn Show helped inform and empower communities, and contributed to discussions that shape public debate (Eye Radio).

She also said his example encouraged young journalists, while underlining the broader role the media can play in society through consistent public-facing programming and professional standards (Eye Radio).

    Family, Colleagues Receive Official Condolences

The minister extended condolences to Akile’s family, friends, and colleagues, and urged them to find comfort in memories of his life and the continuing impact of his work in journalism (Eye Radio).

In her words, “The loss of Emmanuel is not just a heartbreaking event for his family and friends; it is a significant loss for our nation,” a sentiment that reflects the strong public recognition surrounding his career (Eye Radio).
