    UNMISS and NEC Partnership

The Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Elections Commission says its preparations have leapt forward thanks to logistical and technical backing from UNMISS and the National Elections Commission headquarters in Juba, according to chairperson Joseph Akuei Yak during an interview on Radio Tamazuj’s “Road to Democracy” programme.

    Civic Training Workshops

Yak noted that sustained workshops have brought together political parties, civil society, youth and women leaders, framing a shared understanding of electoral rules while highlighting the right of every citizen to choose leaders peacefully.

    Multilingual Radio Outreach

Local radio stations carried discussions in Dinka, Arabic and English for four consecutive days, allowing callers to quiz officials on voter registration, ballot security and timelines, an approach Yak said improved public trust and reduced misinformation.

    Timeline to 2026 Elections

Stakeholders insist that early engagement will smooth the path to the December 2026 polls, envisioned as South Sudan’s first nationwide vote since independence; the elections office believes continuous partnership with UN agencies and national bodies can anchor credible processes despite logistical hurdles.
