Renewed Shelling Rocks Pieri, Uror County
Residents of Pieri in Uror County awoke to exploding artillery rounds on Monday, hours after rival SPLA-IO factions clashed on the town’s edge. Local MP Wany Bum Makhor accuses the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces of firing indiscriminately into the densely populated centre.
Casualty Report Remains Preliminary
Makhor’s statement, dated 10 November 2025, cites initial figures of one civilian killed and two wounded during the morning skirmish between Machar-aligned troops and the Kitgwang faction. He fears the afternoon shelling could raise the toll among Pieri’s estimated 18,000 inhabitants.
Call for Tactical Withdrawal
The MP urges forces loyal to First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar to relocate from Pieri to Motot, arguing that a tactical pullback would shield civilians. He likewise advises Gen. Simon Gatwech Dual’s Kitgwang fighters to regroup in Yuai to prevent recurring firefights.
Appeal to Juba and Jonglei Authorities
Makhor calls on national and state governments to deploy a joint peace and security team to Pieri without delay. “The lives of our people must be placed above all political and military considerations,” he states, warning that prolonged militarization could erode fragile calm.
Humanitarian Outlook for Lou Nuer Community
Aid workers are still assessing the damage but note that Pieri hosts many internally displaced Lou Nuer families. Continued shelling could disrupt farming and stretch scant health services as the dry season approaches, heightening fears of food insecurity and disease outbreaks.
