Bentiu Radio Returns to the Airwaves

On Tuesday, Bentiu Radio 99.0 FM crackled back to life after nearly twelve silent months. Governor Riek Bim cut the ribbon during a brief ceremony, marking a symbolic restart for a station many residents describe as Unity State’s heartbeat.

    Government Investment Powers the Revamp

Information Minister Engineer Gatwech Bipal Both told attendees that state funds underwrote the refurbishment. The transmitter now blankets a 115-kilometer radius, operates around the clock, and links to South Sudan Broadcasting Cooperation television and radio, reinforcing official communication channels.

Community Reactions to the Fresh Signal

Listener Joseph Lony reported immediate reception inside Bentiu Town and thanked authorities for “local news without delays.” In rural Guit County, Nyawuor Kueth echoed the sentiment, saying the revived station lets citizens rely on their own voice rather than distant outlets.

    Peace and Development Through Broadcasting

Governor Bim expects the station to amplify peace messaging, reduce crime through instant reporting, and spotlight health, education, hygiene, agriculture, and environmental issues. Analysts in Bentiu argue that such programming could narrow the information gap and nurture social cohesion across counties.

Future Prospects for Unity State Media

Sustaining twenty-four hour broadcasting will test resources, yet officials remain optimistic. “We are committed to keeping the microphones open,” Minister Both affirmed, suggesting that in Unity State, stability may now travel on the same wavelength as the news.
