Comboni Day Fuses Faith and Learning
On Friday, Tambura-Yambio Diocese gathered at St. Mary Primary School to mark St. Daniel Comboni Day through an inter-school talent contest. The colourful celebration blended faith, education and culture, drawing pupils, clergy, parents and officials into a single, vibrant audience.
Ten Schools Bring Culture to the Stage
Ten Catholic institutions, from Abangite Nursery to Bishop Abangite Science and Technology School, took turns presenting traditional dances, poems and songs that underscored themes of health, unity and learning. Security concerns kept a few schools away, yet the mood remained upbeat and hopeful.
Voices of Unity and Peace
Organising committee chairperson Pascal Mabu explained that launching the feast with a competition fosters togetherness. “This is about peace, unity and showcasing creativity,” he told the crowd, thanking the Bishop for full backing and urging participants to respect judges and the event’s spirit.
Bishop’s Call for Education First
Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala applauded every school as “a winner,” pledging continuous diocesan support. He appealed to parents to prioritise schooling, echoing Comboni’s belief that education transforms lives. “These performances are testimonies of resilience, creativity and faith,” the prelate observed.
Annual Tradition on the Horizon
With the official feast day set for 10 October, diocesan planners intend to institutionalise the contest as an annual fixture, turning the gathering into a fountain of peace and knowledge that can inspire the region’s next generation of leaders.
