New Jonglei Leaders Promise Transparency Revolution

Bor Town Ceremony Signals New Chapter

Applause echoed through the Jonglei State Secretariat in Bor as Governor Riek Gai Kok swore in a slate of directors, commissioners and advisors on Friday.

The governor framed the event as more than a formal rite, describing it as proof of a wider promise to deliver a responsive government.

    Accountability and Innovation Drive Mandate

Addressing the officials, Gai Kok stressed that public office is a solemn trust, not a privilege, urging every appointee to adopt strict accountability and transparent procedures from their first day.

He further urged them to pair integrity with creativity, arguing that fresh ideas are vital to meet citizens’ expectations in an era of rapid change across South Sudan.

    Confronting Insecurity and Climate Shocks

Jonglei has endured intercommunal violence, cattle raids and seasonal floods that cut roads and farms.

Gai Kok conceded the challenges are ‘enormous’ yet insisted that unity, hard work and modern solutions could transform adversity into momentum for development.

    Development Blueprint Sets the Bar

The governor directed each department to study the state’s development agenda and align budgets, projects and timelines accordingly.

Performance, he warned, will be judged by visible impact—from rehabilitated bridges to accessible health posts—rather than by speeches.

    Restoring Public Trust Through Results

Analysts note that coordinated delivery and honest communication are key to rebuilding confidence among Jonglei’s diverse communities.

The newly sworn officials left the chamber pledging ‘results citizens can touch’, a statement many residents hope will mark the start of a more inclusive era.
