    A Landmark Ceremony in Bor

Cheers rose across Bor as Dr John Garang Memorial University of Science and Technology conferred postgraduate diplomas on 42 pioneers, 37 men and five women, marking the institution’s maiden graduate-level milestone (Eye Radio, 17 September 2025).

    Partnerships Fuel Academic Growth

The postgraduate program emerged from a tripartite collaboration linking the university, the International Organization for Migration and the Kingdom of the Netherlands, whose grant covered every tuition franc and research cost.

    Leaders Highlight Research Priorities

Vice-Chancellor Professor Abraham Matoch told Eye Radio the achievement shows the campus is “improving to the standard level required universally” and positions graduate studies as the engine room of future research.

Ceremony Led by Senior Presidential Advisor

Eng. Kuol Manyang Juuk, Senior Presidential Advisor and chair of the university council, presided over the proceedings, saluting the cohort’s perseverance amid South Sudan’s wider recovery journey.

    Funding Removes Financial Barriers

Administrators underscored that external sponsorship not only financed tuition but also alleviated day-to-day burdens, a decisive factor for many learners from Jonglei State and beyond.

    Continuing Challenges and Outlook

The university, one of five public institutions nationwide, has previously halted activities over meal shortages, yet staff express confidence that the new graduate arm will attract additional resources and stabilise campus life.
