MTN MoMo Expansion Sweeps South Sudan

MTN South Sudan has rolled out “Mata Fekir”, a campaign designed to push its mobile money service, MoMo, into every county. Executives unveiled the drive at Juba’s Pyramid Hotel, declaring cash-free payments the next frontier for daily transactions.

    Digital Finance Challenges and Opportunities

Francis Matseketsa, CEO of MTN Fintech, called the launch a turning point, stressing partnerships with NGOs to build a digital system that leaves no village behind. He argued that trimming cash circulation will cut transaction costs and stimulate formal commerce.

    Regulators Endorse Cashless Vision

Officials from the National Communication Authority praised the initiative as a milestone toward an inclusive, innovative and resilient financial ecosystem. Director Papiti Okwaci underlined that access to affordable digital finance is a prerequisite for growth rather than a privilege.

    Central Bank Maps Supportive Framework

Bank of South Sudan’s Director of the National Payment System, Akum Sabahker, said regulators are drafting a strategy to tackle bottlenecks in digital transactions. The blueprint, he noted, will be crucial for investor confidence and consumer protection.

    Economy Poised for Inclusive Upswing

MTN South Sudan CEO Mapula Bodibe believes the moment is ripe to bring previously excluded citizens into the digital fold. She argued that every mobile wallet opened increases market transparency, widens tax nets and strengthens household resilience against shocks.

    Government Commits to Secure Infrastructure

Undersecretary Bulabek Mawien assured that the Ministry of Information Technology and Postal Services will safeguard the platform, encourage innovation and resolve hurdles swiftly, saying a secure, inclusive and trusted system remains a national priority.
