    Official Start in Nairobi

At the United Nations Office in Nairobi on Wednesday, newly appointed South Sudan ambassador Anthony Louis Kon officially delivered his credentials, opening a fresh chapter in Juba’s representation.

The brief ceremony marked the formal start of his tenure as Permanent Representative to both the United Nations Environment Programme and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme.

    Kon Outlines Multilateral Commitment

Speaking after the handover, Ambassador Kon underlined South Sudan’s commitment to multilateral dialogue and promised deeper engagement with international partners.

He said the country aims to align its aspirations with the environmental and settlement priorities championed by UNEP and UN-Habitat.

    UNON Pledges Cooperative Support

UNON Director-General Zainab Hawa Bangura welcomed the ambassador, pledging sustained cooperation that supports peace, sustainable development and responsible environmental management.

According to the Director-General, the United Nations will continue to stand with South Sudan as it pursues stability at home while contributing to collective global efforts.

    Embassy Signals Optimism for Partnerships

In a statement released in Juba, the South Sudanese Embassy voiced optimism about expanding cooperation with UNON, UNEP and UN-Habitat to reach shared objectives.

The credential presentation formally opens administrative channels for future joint initiatives in Nairobi.

    Focus Shifts to Implementation

Ambassador Kon’s posting underscores South Sudan’s diplomatic footprint within the United Nations system, reflecting its stated dedication to multilateralism.

With credentials now accepted, attention turns to practical collaboration among South Sudan, UNEP and UN-Habitat as they pursue mutually articulated goals.
