Rumbek Currency Hub Promises Jobs and Faster Cash

    High-Level Launch in Lakes State

Senior officials, including Finance Minister Athian Diing Athian and BoSS Governor Dr Addis Ababa Othow, gathered in Rumbek to cut the ribbon on the bank’s new currency centre, launched on the President’s behalf.

Parliament members, state governor Rin Tueny Mabor and community leaders joined the ceremony, marking what Lakes State officials called a ‘radical answer’ to years of costly cash logistics.

    Cutting Costs of Cash Transfers

For decades, salaries and payments reached Rumbek only after expensive journeys by plane or road. Bank spokesperson William Koji said the new centre means money “will now be delivered directly”, eliminating delays for civil servants and traders.

    Youth Employment Prospects

Koji added that up to ninety percent of the centre’s workforce will be recruited locally, offering skilled positions that many young Lakes State residents previously had to seek elsewhere.

    Strategic Move for Financial Inclusion

BoSS regards the facility as a milestone in a broader push to strengthen national banking infrastructure. Officials anticipate faster transactions, greater confidence in the formal sector and a ripple effect on small businesses across the state.

The bank says Rumbek will act as a template for future centres across South Sudan, broadening financial access nationwide while reinforcing economic stability.
